This miniature RESIST protest sign pendant is handcrafted in recycled sterling silver and hangs from a Massachusetts-produced cotton cord with upcycled button closure.
Inspired by my work as co-founder of the weekly protest Bearing Witness @ ICE, I created this pendant to help raise money for mutual aid organizations that support immigrants in Massachusetts.
To create this pendant, I first carved a miniature protest sign sculpture out of wax. I then used the lost wax investment casting process to create a plaster mold and then produce a silver version. After I poured the molten silver into the plaster mold of the wax and then cleaned up the sterling to its final form, I created a vulcanized rubber mold of the miniature sterling silver pendant. With this mold, I use a wax injector to create individual copies of the original pendant, and each wax copy is then cast using the lost wax casting process. It is a lengthy process but I greatly enjoy doing every step myself, and feel grateful that I was able to bring this idea to fruition.
Pendant measures approximately 1/2" wide by 9/16" tall, on 1mm cord with ~1/2" button. Upcycled button color is randomly selected for each order; they are all awesome!
